Real sustainability must permeate teaching, learning, research and operations within the educational institutions and our external relations with the community. To achieve inclusive and holistic goals, ‘whole institutional approaches’, global networks, regional centres of excellence etc., must be in place to acknowledge that our real-world systems are complex and dynamic.

EE has found broad local and global interpretations with a universal context. A range of actors, including environmental agencies and education systems, school boards, teachers and educators, multilateral organisations, UN and other regional organisations, and NGOs, are striving to infuse, integrate and mainstream EE and the perspective of sustainability. They have varied motivations—individual action for sustainability, behaviour change, organisational change, and social learning. The objective is to ensure that the educational community acquire the knowledge, competencies, and skills to promote sustainable and fair development. The latter includes sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promoting a culture of peace and nonviolence, and global citizenship.

We welcome research and practice submissions, including but not limited to:

• How the EE community integrates this whole transversal approach to create a lasting impact and minimise our footprint.
• How EE can promote global citizenship through collaborative networks, online learning communities,
• Good practices in EE collaboration between different countries, socioeconomic contexts, cultures, etc., that favour the exchange of experiences and the valuation of differences.
• Building networks to scale up community efforts into effective change.
