Fossil Dunes (Al Wathba)

Located 45 kilometres to the east of Abu Dhabi, Al Wathba Fossil Dunes Protected Area comprises more than 1 700 fossil dunes, spread over 7 square kilometres, making it one of the largest numbers of fossil dunes concentrated in one location in the emirate. Al Wathba fossil dunes are connected to the congress theme “A Matter of Values and Cultural Diversity: Indigenous Knowledge and Culture”. These sand dunes are unique and are a significant element of the natural history of Abu Dhabi and the UAE. EAD is encouraging students to study eco-tourism and enhance their knowledge about the UAE’s natural heritage.
